Η Ελληνοαμερικανική Ένωση παρουσιάζει τον κύκλο διαλέξεων «Από το cult στο
κλασικό: Η επιστροφή του pop culture» του συγγραφέα, μεταφραστή και θεωρητικό του
πολιτισμού Αβραάμ Κάουα. Ο κύκλος περιλαμβάνει 6 διαλέξεις και πραγματοποιείται
online κάθε Τετάρτη, 27/1-3/3/2021, 19:00-21:00.
Λατρεμένο όσο και κατακριτέο, το pop culture ακροβατεί πάντα μεταξύ αποδοχής και
περιθωρίου. Στο σινεμά, στα κόμικς και στην τηλεόραση, δείγματά του γίνονται αρχικά
αποδεκτά μόνο από “μυημένες” μειονότητες για να καταλήξουν εκφράσεις του
mainstream και του κατεστημένου -αλλά και να κατακριθούν ξανά. Σε αυτή τη
συναρπαστική διαδρομή τους, τέτοια δείγματα γίνονται διαχρονικά και ερμηνεύονται με
απροσδόκητους, αποκαλυπτικούς τρόπους. Ακολουθήστε τη κι εσείς σε έναν κύκλο
διαλέξεων σε κόσμους οικείους αλλά και άγνωστους που μας λένε εξίσου πολλά για το τι
σημαίνουν για μας αυτά τα εμβληματικά προϊόντα του πολιτισμού μας όσο και για τους
εαυτούς μας ως αποδέκτες τους.

1η Διάλεξη, 27 Ιανουαρίου
Οι Υπερήρωες και το Τέλος του Κινηματογράφου
Από λυτρωτικές φαντασιώσεις των αδυνάτων και των διαφορετικών, οι υπερήρωες έχουν εξελιχθεί σε κυρίαρχο ρεύμα του pop culture και της εποχής των franchise. Είναι αυτή η παρούσα εκδοχή τους το τέλος του κινηματογράφου όπως τον ξέραμε ή άλλο ένα στάδιο στην μετεξέλιξη του τρόπου που διηγούμαστε ιστορίες;
2η Διάλεξη, 3 Φεβρουαρίου
Πανδημίες της Έμπνευσης: Από το Δεκαήμερο και τον Ε.Α. Poe στο streaming
Η καταστροφή συχνά εμπνέει στους συγγραφείς τόσο την Αποκάλυψη όσο και τη Δημιουργία. Πανδημίες του παρελθόντος και του μέλλοντος γίνονται ιστορίες στο pop culture από τον Μεσαίωνα ως τις μέρες μας σε ένα ταξίδι σε κύκλους απομόνωσης, απελπισμένων πάρτι, δημιουργικότητας και αφανισμού.
3η Διάλεξη, 10 Φεβρουαρίου
Pop Dystopias: Τα Swinging Sixties και ο Τρόμος του Ολοκληρωτισμού
Στη δεκαετία του 1960, το pop culture μαζί με μια ολόκληρη γενιά διεκδίκησε την αλλαγή του κόσμου μέσα από μουσική, ψυχεδέλεια και χαρούμενη επανάσταση. Μέσα από τα ίδια λαμπερά αυτά χρώματα όμως, τους mod κατασκόπους και τις μίνι φούστες, κατήγγειλε όσο και προέβλεψε την πορεία της ανθρωπότητας προς τα σκοτεινά χρόνια που ακολούθησαν.
4η Διάλεξη, 17 Φεβρουαρίου
Invasion of the Body Politic: Τα Ριμέικ του Invasion of the Body Snatchers ως Παραβολές της Εποχής τους
Από απλή ιστορία εισβολής από εξωγήινα τέρατα, το Invasion of the Body Snatchers έχει ξαναγραφτεί ως πολιτική αμφιλογία, σπουδή στην αποξένωση, σάτιρα του στρατιωτικο βιομηχανικού συμπλέγματος και έκφραση της σύγχυσης πασών των αξιών. Μέσα από τις επιστρώσεις αυτές διαγράφεται η ρευστή συλλογική μας ταυτότητα.
5η Διάλεξη, 24 Φεβρουαρίου
Φοβού τους Αλλοεθνείς: Ρατσισμός, «Κακοί» και η Επανάκτηση της
Διαφορετικότητας
Από τον Σάιλοκ στον Φου Μαντσού και από τη Σιωπή των Αμνών στο Killing Eve, ιστορίες προσωποποιούν τον κάθε λογής «κίνδυνο» (φυλετικό, θρησκευτικό, πολιτικό, σεξουαλικό) στους «κακούς» της ιστορίας. Η ίδια η διαδικασία αυτή όμως κάνει τους «άλλους» περίπλοκους, οδηγώντας στην (δι)εκδίκηση των αδικημένων μέσα από ανατροπή των στερεοτύπων τους.
6η Διάλεξη, 3 Μαρτίου
Πόλεμος των Άστρων: Το Παραμύθι που Πήγε Στραβά
Σε μια ιστορία που κάνει κύκλους εντός και εκτός της πλοκής της, η αποδοχή του Πολέμου των Άστρων από κάθε γενιά ακολουθεί την απόρριψη του από την προηγούμενη. Πίσω από το παράδοξο αυτό χάσμα γενεών όμως κρύβεται τόσο μια συνεχής, απελπισμένη επιθυμία του κοινού του για ενηλικίωση όσο και μια σοκαριστική αποκάλυψη της πραγματικής φύσης του μύθου.
Ο Αβραάμ Κάουα είναι συγγραφέας, μεταφραστής και θεωρητικός του πολιτισμού. Έχει
σπουδάσει Αγγλική και Γαλλική Φιλολογία και Δημοσιογραφία και έχει αποκτήσει
Διδακτορικό (Ph.D.) από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Λονδίνου πάνω στον Μεταμοντερνισμό,
την Λογοτεχνία και το Σύγχρονο Πολιτισμό. Γράφει και μελετά κόμικς, κινηματογράφο και
λογοτεχνία του μυστηρίου και του φανταστικού, με πληθώρα δημοσιεύσεων στην Ελλάδα
και στο εξωτερικό. Η Δημοκρατία, το graphic novel του με τον σχεδιαστή Αλέκο
Παπαδάτο με θέμα τη γέννηση της Αθηναϊκής Δημοκρατίας τον 6ο αιώνα π.Χ., έχει
εκδοθεί σε δέκα χώρες, ενώ πέρα από το συγγραφικό του έργο, έχει διδάξει Πολιτισμικές
Σπουδές στο Πανεπιστήμιο Αιγαίου, Σενάριο και Δημιουργική Γραφή στη Σχολή
Ελευθέρων Σπουδών Δια Βίου Μάθησης Comink, και Κινηματογράφο και Ιστορία στο
Ελληνικό Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο
