Το Εθνικό Θέατρο παρουσιάζει για πρώτη φορά το έργο του Ιάκωβου Καμπανέλλη “Η Στέλλα με τα κόκκινα γάντια”, σε σκηνοθεσία Γιάννου Περλέγκα
Το έργο του συγγραφέα που σφράγισε την Ελληνική μεταπολεμική δραματουργία γράφτηκε την άνοιξη του 1954 και αποτέλεσε την αφορμή για την πρώτη επαφή του με τον κινηματογράφο το 1955.
Στο συνοικιακό υπαίθριο «Νυχτερινό κέντρο η Μαρία» τραγουδάει η Στέλλα, μια γυναίκα ανεξάρτητη και ανυπότακτη. Αδιάφορη για τον κοινωνικό αντίκτυπο που προκαλεί η ελεύθερη ζωή της. H Στέλλα επιμένει να ορίζει η ίδια τον εαυτό της, να ζει τον έρωτα χωρίς όρια και να μην συμβιβάζεται με τα κοινωνικά «πρέπει».
Στο πρόσωπο του Μίλτου, η Στέλλα θα βρει το αρσενικό αντίρροπο του δικού της δαιμονίου. Ο έρωτάς τους θα τους οδηγήσει αναπόφευκτα σε σύγκρουση καθώς ο Μίλτος θα προσπαθήσει, προτείνοντάς της γάμο, να υποτάξει την ελεύθερη φύση της.
Η Στέλλα εγκαταλείπει τον Μίλτο στα σκαλιά της εκκλησίας και με την απόφασή της αυτή προσβάλει τόσο την «ανδρική τιμή» του, όσο και τις κατεστημένες αντιλήψεις του κοινωνικού τους περίγυρου. Ο δρόμος του αίματος που από καιρό έχει ανοίξει, τώρα πρέπει να κλείσει. Ένα «άγριο γλέντι, ακόμα πιο άγριο», όπως προειδοποιεί ο Μίλτος, ετοιμάζεται…
