Την Τετάρτη 10 Ιουνίου στις 19.00 συνεχίζεται η διαδικτυακή ηχητική σειρά του Κέντρου Πολιτισμού Ίδρυμα Σταύρος Νιάρχος (ΚΠΙΣΝ) Αναγνώσεις με αποσπάσματα από τον Ερωτόκριτο, το κορυφαίο αφηγηματικό ποίημα της ελληνικής παράδοσης. Τη δραματουργία επιμελήθηκε και διαβάζει ο μεγάλος Έλληνας πρωταγωνιστής Χρήστος Λούλης, ο οποίος στην παράσταση του Ερωτόκριτου (2002) σε σκηνοθεσία Βασίλη Νικολαΐδη, είχε κρατήσει τον ομώνυμο ρόλο.
Ο Ερωτόκριτος, «ποίημα ερωτικόν συνθεμένον από τον ποτέ ευγενέστατον Βιτζέντζον τον Κορνάρον» –όπως αναγράφεται στο εξώφυλλο της πρώτης έκδοσης (Βενετία, 1713)– αποτελεί ανεξάντλητη πηγή έμπνευσης για εμβληματικούς δημιουργούς της νεότερης Ελλάδας. Εδώ και τρεις αιώνες, το έμμετρο μυθιστόρημα του μεγάλου κρητικού ποιητή έχει γνωρίσει πολλές επανεκδόσεις και μεταφράσεις, ενώ επηρέασε σημαντικές μορφές της λογοτεχνίας μας όπως τον Σολωμό, τον Σικελιανό, τον Πρεβελάκη και τον Ρίτσο. Επιπλέον, εκδοχές του Ερωτόκριτου παρουσιάστηκαν στο θέατρο από κορυφαίους σκηνοθέτες μας (μεταξύ άλλων, ο Νίκος Χατζίσκος, ο Θάνος Κωτσόπουλος, ο Σπύρος Ευαγγελάτος και ο Βασίλης Νικολαΐδης), ενώ διασκευάστηκε για τον κινηματογράφο από τον Νίκο Κούνδουρο. Επίσης, ενέπνευσε τον μεγάλο λαϊκό μας ζωγράφο Θεόφιλο και μελοποιήθηκε από τον συνθέτη Νίκο Μαμαγκάκη αλλά και Χριστόδουλο Χάλαρη με ερμηνευτή τον Νίκο Ξυλούρη.
To συναρπαστικό ποίημα του Κορνάρου είναι γραμμένο στην κρητική διάλεκτο, συνδυάζει τη λόγια με τη δημοτική παράδοση και έχει εμφανείς επιρροές από την ιταλική Αναγέννηση. Ήδη από τον 17ο αιώνα, είχε διαδοθεί στην Πελοπόννησο και στα νησιά: ο λαός το αγαπούσε πολύ, γι’ αυτό το απομνημόνευε και το απήγγειλλε, το τραγουδούσε ή το διάβαζε. Ακόμα και σήμερα, ο Ερωτόκριτος εξακολουθεί να συγκινεί τον αναγνώστη, γιατί μιλά τη «γλώσσα της καρδιάς» και «δεν έχει πουθενά κανένα ίχνος γλωσσικού πληθωρισμού, κανένα είδος ρητορείας», όπως παρατηρεί ο Γιώργος Σεφέρης σε ένα από τα σπουδαιότερα δοκίμιά του (Δοκιμές).
Ο Ερωτόκριτος είναι ερωτευμένος με την Αρετούσα, θυγατέρα του βασιλιά Ηράκλη, αλλά ο πατέρας της δεν τον θεωρεί αντάξιό της και τον εξορίζει. Οι δύο νέοι θα ζήσουν πολλές περιπέτειες μέχρι να ενωθούν με τα δεσμά του γάμου: αρραβωνιάζονται κρυφά, η Αρετούσα φυλακίζεται επειδή αρνείται να παντρευτεί τον μνηστήρα που θέλει να της επιβάλει ο πατέρας της, ενώ ο Ερωτόκριτος μεταμφιεσμένος πολεμά και τραυματίζεται σε μια επικίνδυνη μάχη στην προσπάθειά του να σώσει τον βασιλιά Ηράκλη, ο οποίος προσφέρει στον «άγνωστο» πολεμιστή την κόρη του ως σύζυγο. Η πίστη της Αρετούσας θα δοκιμαστεί, αλλά το τέλος θα είναι αίσιο.
Στους 10.000 στίχους του Ερωτόκριτου ξετυλίγεται μια ολοζώντανη αφήγηση που θυμίζει λαϊκό παραμύθι, ιπποτικό μυθιστόρημα αλλά και ομηρικό έπος, με εντυπωσιακές εναλλαγές ανάμεσα σε τρυφερές σκηνές με το ζευγάρι των αγαπημένων νέων και σε επικές πολεμικές αναμετρήσεις. Και όλα αυτά, με φόντο έναν φανταστικό κόσμο που ενώνει, με μαγευτικό τρόπο, την αρχαία Αθήνα με το Βυζάντιο και τη μεσαιωνική Ελλάδα.
